TIJANI BABANGIDA: Tragedy Befalls As Son Dies, Wife Loses Eye – Details.
Severe catastrophy has struck the family of former Nigerian football star, Tijjani Babangida, as his one-year-old son, Fadil, has succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident along the Kaduna-Zaria highway.
This ugly incident occurred last Thursday when Babangida was traveling with his family, including his wife Maryam, son Fadil, brother Ibrahim, and their maid.
It was reported that Babangida’s brother, Ibrahim died at the spot of scene, while the other occupants were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In a recent update, chairman of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) Task Force, Harrison Jalla, confirmed that Fadil also passed away due to the injuries he sustained in the accident.
According to information, the accident has left Babangida’s wife, Maryam, with severe facial injuries which has resulted to loss of her one eye. She is currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria. Further Investigation revealed that their maid also suffered a leg fracture in the crash.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) paid a visit to Babangida at the hospital, offering condolences for the loss of his brother and son.
NFF also prayed for a speedy recovery for Babangida and his wife, who has undergone successful facial surgery.
Babangida, a renowned footballer, is the president of PFAN and was a key member of the Nigerian U-23 team that won the gold medal in football at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Babangida had a decade-long career with the Super Eagles, earning fame for his speed down the wings. He was also part of the Eagles squad at the 1998 World Cup and 2000 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
