- PANIC as Power Transmission Line Bomb in Abuja
The nation’s capital city, Abuja has witnessed another attack from suspected electricity vandals or terrorist following the reported bombing of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Tower 70, along the 330KV Gwagwalada-Katampe transmission line in the Federal Capital Territory.
This ugly occurrence has drastically reduced bulk power supply flexibility and the volume of power supplies into Abuja by 250MW, according to TCN’s spokesperson, Mrs Ndidi Mbah.
According to her, she affirmed that the incident which occured around 11.32 pm on February 26th resulted to despatch of patrol team after attempt at reclosure of power trip at the Gwagwalada Substation failed .
Ndidi Mbah asserted that the Tower is presently standing precariously with support of conductors.
“The inhumane incident occurred on February 26th, 2024, around 11.32 pm. At this period, the Gwagwalada–Katampe Transmission line tripped at Gwagwalada Transmission Substation and trial reclosure by TCN Operators was unsuccessful, requires a physical patrol of the line.
“It was subsequently discovered by the TCN lines operatives and patrol team that the four (4) tower footings of Tower 70 has been bombed, destroying the tower legs and causing the tower to stand on the ground, supported by conductors”.
Ndidi Mbah disclosed to the source that the company has mobilized to the location for emergency repairs while calling for uninterrupted vigilance on the part of citizens.
However, TCN has mobilized to the site of the incident and emergency repair of the damaged tower including all associated equipment has commenced.
“Mbah reemphasized the need for steady 24/7 vigilance in the fight against vandalism of power equipment. Reporting suspicious movements in vicinity of all power equipment to security operatives or to the nearest TCN offices nationwide should not also be compromised by citizens.
