Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, speaking in an interview with a BBC journalist when he was asked if he ever regretted any of his action or step taken during his time as president of Nigeria. Point blankly stated, Obasanjo claimed that every steps he took during his presidency was very very right.
When journalist reminded him of the Odi incidence where almost an entire village was invaded and wiped out by the military.
Obasanjo said; “Of course if I have soldiers and police who are the instruments by which I should maintain security, and I sent police, and they were killed, and I send soldiers, and they were killed, what do you expect me to do? If you’re in my position, what will you do, will you fold your arms?”
It should be recalled that Odi incident reportedly occured on 20th November, 1999 at the Ijaw town of Odi in Bayelsa State after some members of the police were killed by armed gangs during disputes over oil.
