“Local Govt Administration not under State Control in Kwara” – Saifudeen

Kwara State Government says Local Government Administration under its watch is autonomous, NEWSKINGDOM gathered.

State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Architect Muhammad Saifudeen dropped this hint today while featuring on Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Radio Kwara Chapel Programme tagged Viewpoint themed ” Effective Local Government Administration Towards Advancing Good Governance”.

Architect Saifudeen said the state government is not touching the funds of Local Governments as Ministry Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development only plays oversight functions

He confirmed that Joint Account Allocation Committee JAAC is now abolished in the state as all Local Governments decide what to do with their monthly allocations after deductions of first line charges

Architect Saifudeen noted that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led dispensation has shoulder the responsibility of augmenting Local Governments funds in situation of allocation shortfalls as the third tier of Government is now witnessing Good Governance devoid of state control

Declaring the event open, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Kwara State Council, Comrade Abdul-lateef Ahmed advocated full independence of Local Government Administration to guarantee development at the grassroots

Comrade Ahmed described the choice of Architect Saifudeen for the Viewpoint interactive Programme as apt in view of his commitment towards the survival of the third tier of government

In his remark, Chairman, Nigeria Union Journalists NUJ Radio Kwara Chapel, Mallam Abdul-Hameed Funsho-Alaiye explained that Good Governance cannot be achieved without Local Government autonomy.

Mallam Funsho-Alaiye opined that the attention not focused on autonomy of Local Governments in the contemporary society informed the choice of Commissioner Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Architect Muhammad Saifudeen to clarify issues
